What's the Problem

As with many things, there are differences of opinion. For example, some people do not agree with abortion, as they believe it is killing a human being. For a very similar reason, some people believe that harvesting stem cells from Embryos is also wrong. But do the scientific values outweigh the issues?

Cures and Bodily Improvements

Stem cells can help cure problems that a person may have with a particular organ or part of their body. A person with a weak heart would be able to have a stem cell injection, which would strengthen the heart. Similar problems to these are big problems, and kill many people. With stem cells, many lives could be saved.

Ethic Issues

Taking stem cells from pre-embyos kills the embryo, which could grow into a human being. Some people think of this as murder, that should be punishable. Some people define human life as anything which will turn into a human being, and using embryos like grain, to harvest stem cells from, may be perceived as genocide, or equivalent to it.

The Solution?

This is why people are searching for other ways to obtain stem cells, though most of them are less useful. For example, taking stem cells from a human baby would mean they may need to be stored for the life of the person to be helpful due to the possibility of a rejection, which may be impractical.
