Science and Engineering Ambassadors (SEAs)

The Science and Engineering Ambassadors (SEAs) Programme is STEMNET’s flagship programme.  Ambassadors are individuals from a wide variety of STEM backgrounds, from all across the UK, who offer their time, enthusiasm and expertise to help schools inspire young people.

As the contract holder for SEAs in Hampshire & Isle of Wight, INTECH have active SEAs from a wide range of companies within the county, including BAE Systems, EADS Astrium, IBM, QinetiQ and ThalesGroup, as well as many individuals volunteering independently. They are involved in so many different ways it is impossible to list them all but some SEAs support our KS2 Discovery SE workshop programme, working in schools with 7 - 11 year olds, some SEAs talk directly to school visitors and the public as 'explainers' on the floor at  INTECH Science Centre, others mentor teams in the FIRST Lego League Challenge or the Greenpower Goblin competition. and still others work with sixth formers on real life projects as part of the Engineering Education Scheme or EES. Some companies offer their form of involvement, e.g. IBM's MentorPlace and others are involved with their local schools throughout the year doing all sorts of things from numeracy games with the tinies to careers events and interview practice for the school leavers.

Anyone who has an interest in STEM and a desire to inspire children and young people in STEM subjects can become a SEA.  The main qualities all Ambassadors share are enthusiasm and commitment, along with a passion for what they do.

If you would like to become involved, either as volunteering time as a SEA, or if you're a teacher wanting to make use of a SEA or two, then please contact Sharon sharonwhitfield@intech-uk.com.
