INTECH workshops are delivered in schools by INTECH staff and Science and Engineering Ambassadors (SEAs). These are aimed at key stages 1 - 3 and include workshops on Forces, Electrical circuits, Data capture and Structures using K'Nex and Brio construction kits, among many others. We have new Control Technology workshops available, using FlowGo equipment.
As the contract holder for STEMPOINT in Hants & IoW, INTECH is involved with national challenges and activities including:
FIRST LEGO League
FLL is an international programme for children aged between 9 and 16 years that combines a hands-on, interactive robotics program with a sports-like atmosphere using the LEGO MINDSTORMS Robotics Invention System. Teams face an annual Challenge emulating a real world event or situation and must research, plan, build, program and test a fully autonomous robot capable of accomplishing the Challenge.
The 2008 Challenge.
The "winds of change are blowing" and with them comes FIRST LEGO League's 2008 Climate Connections Challenge! Join us as we explore why many experts believe the earth's climate is changing and how these changes impact you and our planet. The causes, contributions, and consequences are all interconnected and the experts are telling us to "think globally - act locally." People, resources, and local actions need to be united to establish a global game plan. Do FIRST LEGO League teams have what it takes to make these global Climate Connections?
INTECH hosts the regional final for Hampshire each year
The 2008 final will be held on 11th December
The Greenpower Goblin
The Greenpower Goblin kit car is designed specifically to offer primary school pupils a chance to get involved in a simple, practical engineering project that embraces many relevant aspects of science and technology in a fun and exciting way.
Greenpower Formula 24
A carefully thought up specification is issued to secondary schools along with a 24 volt electric motor and a set of 4 12 volt lead/acid batteries. Cars are designed and built within the schools with the help of teachers, co-opted outside engineers, parents and sponsoring companies. They then compete in a number of Greenpower run marathon and sprint events throughout the country, using well known motor racing circuits.
BA Crest Awards
CREST (CREativity in Science and Technology) is a UK-wide Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) award scheme managed by the BA (British Association for the Advancement of Science). Through CREST, young people aged 11-19 explore the real nature of STEM by doing their own creative problem solving through mini projects.
BA Crest Star Investigators
The BA has launched CREST Star Investigators for 5-12 year olds. CREST Star Investigators activities have been developed to ensure a smooth transition to secondary CREST.
Junior Engineer for Britain K'Nex Challenge
This competition provides primary school children with an introduction to the exciting world of design and engineering by inviting them to produce a specific design solution for a problem posed, and then build it using K’Nex!
The challenge runs throughout the year and contains 4 levels - School, County/Area, Regional and National.
The school level challenges are curricular linked.
Imagineering Fair
The MTA is a strong supporter of the annual Imagineering Fair, which takes place over the bank holiday weekend in August.
Imagineering is part of a major initiative designed to introduce 8-16 year olds to the fascinating world of engineering and manufacturing through fun, hands-on activities. Through Imagineering, children are able to see, touch and explore exactly how things are designed, how they are made and how they work - and most importantly, have fun at the same time.
Smallpeice Trust
These courses offer students the opportunity to work on real life 'design and make' projects with engineers from industry. There are different courses for different age groups and the courses include lecture and exercises to improve communication skills etc. From Marine technology to Robotics, Smallpeice Trust courses are as exciting as they are varied, and they all offer young, aspiring engineers the chance to connect with industry professionals and technical specialists.
Go4SET
Go4SET links teams of six Year 9(England)/S2 (Scotland) pupils with companies and universities to offer a 10 week Science, Engineering and Technology experience.
By providing a real and live SET project, Go4SET will raise the pupils’ awareness and highlight the exciting future career opportunities in SET.
Work related learning within an industrial enterprise context is at the core of the Go4SET experience. Pupils will benefit from personal development education enhancing their powers of creativity and innovation.
Industrial Trust
The Industrial Trust is the leading national provider of out of school and in-company educational experiences for young people.
Primary Engineer
Primary Engineer is a complete Primary Liaison Project where secondary design and technology teachers attend a 2 day hands-on workshop in the key skills, knowledge and understanding to enable them to work with and support Primary Teachers to deliver effective Design and Technology education for pupils aged 4-11yrs.
The Engineering Education Scheme
The Engineering Education Scheme is the first stage in the Best Programme. It introduces sixth formers to the world of engineering via a programme of joint projects between participating schools and sponsoring industrial companies. The Engineering Education Scheme in England has already provided more than 11,000 young people with an insight into the world of engineering. This invaluable experience enables students to make more informed career decisions through a better understanding of engineering as a profession.
Headstart
Headstart offers Year 12 pupils (6th Form) the opportunity to visit the engineering department of a university to meet students and professors and to see what it is like to study engineering or computer science.

Year in Industry
Year in Industry is a national industrial placement programme, which gives students the opportunity to undertake special engineering/manufacturing projects before going to university. The Engineering Employers' Federation sponsors the 'EEF Year in Industry Contribution to Business Award' (see www.eef.org.uk)
http://www.yini.org.uk/
N.B: Engineering Education Scheme (England), Headstart and Year in Industry are administered by the Engineering Development Trust a registered charity which is part of the Royal Academy of Engineering's Best programme.
Other schemes run by the RoyalAcademy of Engineering include:
Schemes for GCSE and A-level students
Work experience, gap year training, university tasters, practical problem-solving.
Schemes for undergraduates
Industrial and business experience, personal development courses, funding for projects.
Jaguar F1 in Schools
The F1 Team in Schools Challenge is a competition, open to all UK based secondary schools and colleges, to design and manufacture CO2 powered model racing cars. Student teams compete against each other in a national championship to determine the best engineered and fastest car in the UK.
Women into Science and Engineering (WISE)
WISE runs courses, awards and visits schools to promote women in science and engineering. WISE has 5 mobile classrooms, which travel the country, providing girls with the opportunity of exploring different engineering/science related themes.
Scenta
Initiated by The Engineering and Technology Board (the etb), this resource works with leaders in the science, engineering and technology (SET) world to provide a gateway to the best SET resources on the web.
Through the aggregation of the best of existing initiatives, and through a suite of leading-edge communication technologies, including i-Seminars and the Datascenta, scenta acts as a meeting point for people in SET, their peers, and the information providers and professional organisations that they seek.
