Thermal Imager

Thermal Imaging Camera is an extraordinary camera which picks up heat instead of light. Standing in front of it you’ll see yourself in a whole new way - from your cold blue nose to your hot white armpits.

Cameras like these are normally used by firefighters (to help them find people in smoke-filled buildings) and aircraft inspectors (to check for faults in plane wings and engines). In Launchpad you can experience this amazing technology for yourself.

Try licking your lips for an instant ‘lipstick’ effect, or see how quickly your hands warm up when you rub them together.

Look at the scale on the right - how hot is your forehead? What about your eyes?

Where is your clothing the thickest and the thinest?

Do you wear glasses - does the infra red pass through them?

Thermal imaging cameras show heat conduction, so why not explore how some materials conduct heat better than others?
